It is on the road from Colombo to Kandy,  Pinnawalla is known for having the largest herd of captive elephants in the world. In 2011 there were 88 elephants, including 37 males and 51 females from 3 generations.

Here you can see baby elephants being bottled fed with milk and grown up elephants haveing fruits and leaves. Some of them are working  and carrying their food. When you walk down to the Ma-Oya river, you can see the elephants having a bath in the flowing water.

The place give you an option to ride an elephant - and colorful souvenir shops are around. Nowadays Pinnawela is very popular among foreign and local tourists.
